1) For the read-a-loud activity I was going to have the students complete a think pair share activity. I will first read the summary on the back of the book for, Number the Stars." Then I would split the students up into pairs and have them make an inference on the question, "How do you think Annemarie will save her best friends life in the story?" Before they make thier inferences we could make this chart together. I could go over that your background knowledge about the setting of the story and the clues from the book I have just given you will help you to make your inference.

2) For the book, "Who was Anne Frank?" I could use this anchor chart. As a class we will make the web at the top for the book Anne Frank. On the first day I will ask the students, "what do you know about Anne Frank?". Then we will make a web like the one on this anchor chart together as a class to activate thier background knowledge. After making the web I will have the students make predictions as to what will happen in the story and we will add these to our chart. Then I will have the class come up with a question that they would like to answer while reading the book. After that we will take a day or two to read the book as a class. Then we will fill out the rest of the anchor chart with the answer to the question and we will write a summary of the book as a class.

3) I will have this anchor chart on writing workshop up all year long for the students to refer back to while they are writing.
